In rural Malawi, access to schooling is emerging village by village. Learning spaces start as large piles of hand formed bricks which are fired from the center. Concrete is made after rocks are crushed using hammers and muscle. In many cases, village chiefs coordinate the effort to raise schools that will serve a network of closely connected villages.
